Bobbi Lane & Lee Varis will be teaching multiple workshops at the festival
The 2019 Birding & Photo Fest will feature the return of festival favorites, world-class photographers along with new professionals and instructors who will offer technical training opportunities and more birding in-field programs than ever before. As always, festival participants will benefit from insights and instruction from a collection of upper echelon international nature and wildlife photographers — a group that continues to solidify Florida’s Birding & Photo Fest as one of the premier events in North America. And of course, the community of St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and all of Florida’s Historic Coast is welcoming bird lovers and photography aficionados with the friendly hospitality you’ve come to expect
This fun and intensive one-day workshop teaches essential techniques for using natural light in your portraits. Everyone has natural light available, but not necessarily the understanding of how to find it, and manipulate it with reflectors and diffusers to create the most pleasing or effective portraits. We show you how to use window light, backlight, open shade, and “garage door light” —explore how the qualities of each kind of light contributes to the mood of the portrait. Good lighting techniques, along with posing, expressions, camera angles, backgrounds, and basic skin corrections, must harmonize to create a sucessful portrait.
We begin the day with instruction—what to look for when photographing, including optimal camera settings, subject posing, and lighting with reflectors. Then we demonstrate proper techniques with models, followed by hands-on shooting under our guidance. Our location is a private home with great window light, as well as wonderful garden settings. Several models will be available for the afternoon shooting session. The end of the day will be a wrap up with some basic Lightroom techniques for skin enhancement.

Join Bobbi and Lee for a luxury tour of Iceland with Focus on Nature.
Iceland is truly the land of fire and ice—one of the reasons it was used for many of the locations in the hit HBO series “The Game of Thrones!” Iceland reaches down into your soul and touches you in a profound and subtle way. There is a quiet drama besides the spectacular glaciers, mountain, and seashore. The soft green cliffs and fields that stretch to the water are speckled with sheep and the multitude of waterfalls adds to the visual delight. This is pristine and primal Earth, fueled by geothermal and absolutely pure water, and is a reminder of the strength and beauty of the planet.
